A 62-year-old man was killed after a fiery crash in Jackson County during the early morning of Memorial Day.

The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Westbound I-70 at Woods Chapel Road in Blue Springs, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol. The victim, who is from Fort Scott, Kansas, was driving a Mack Truck and heading west on I-70 when he travelled off the right side of the roadway before striking a guardrail, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch on fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at 4:50 a.m. MSHP has not identified the man, but next of kin have been notified.

Westbound I-70 was closed off due to the crash and was reopened around noon on May 25.
