Mother files wrongful death suit against man who fatally shot 3 outside auto shop
The mother of a woman killed in a mass shooting outside an auto shop that was operating an illegal nightclub in 2023 filed a lawsuit against the man who pleaded guilty in her death.
Tamika Jenkins filed the lawsuit in Jackson County court Friday on behalf of her daughter, 28-year-old Jasity “Jas” Strong, who was fatally shot outside the former Perfect Touch Auto Detail, where after-hours parties were held, around 4:30 a.m. on June 25, 2023.
Keivon M. Greene, 29, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree felony murder and one count of unlawful use of a weapon on April 8.
Greene fired into two crowds near East 57th Street and Prospect Avenue, killing Strong, 29-year-old Camden M. Brown and 22-year-old Nikko A. Manning. Six others were wounded.
Strong, a mother of two, was celebrating her 28th birthday on the night of the shooting. Family members remembered her as a bright, beautiful and fun-loving woman.
“I just wish it was me other than her,” Jenkins said during a balloon release in 2023 for Strong. “I just lost my mom five months ago, and now I gotta bury my daughter.”
Jenkins is seeking claims in excess of $25,000.
