Lawrence school district announces death of high school principal
The 49-year-old principal of Lawrence High School has died.
Quentin Rials, principal of Lawrence High School, died at the University of Kansas Medical Center on Tuesday, according to his obituary.
Rials started as a learning coach at West Middle School in the Lawrence School District in 2017, according to a Facebook post from the Lawrence High School Marching Lions.
He became assistant principal of Lawrence High School in November 2018 before becoming the high school’s head principal in 2023, the post said.
Rials graduated from Lawrence High School in 1995, according to the Facebook post.
The marching band said Rials was “a true Chesty Lion.”
“He cared deeply about the well-being of students and the LHS staff, and he revered the Lawrence High School community and traditions,” the marching band said.
Lawrence High School’s graduation ceremony started with a tribute to Rials on Wednesday evening, according to a Facebook post from Lawrence Public Schools.
“It was stated that he chose a career in education because he believed every student deserved to be seen, and that his impact reaches far beyond the walls of Lawrence High School and will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched,” the post said.
A visitation for Rials will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 29 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3312 Calvin Drive, his obituary said. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. May 30.
