Funeral date set for former KSHB 41 anchor Cynthia Newsome
A funeral date has been set for former KSHB 41 anchor Cynthia Newsome, according to her family.
Newsome, who worked for KSHB 41 for 25 years, died Tuesday following a battle with brain cancer, according to the TV station.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 30, 2026, at United Believers Community Church, 5600 E. 112th Terrace, according to a news release from the family. A public viewing will take place from 9 to 11 a.m.
“Cynthia was a devoted wife, family member, mentor, and friend whose life was marked by faith, compassion, service and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others,” the news release said. “While many knew her through her public work and community leadership, to our family she was simply a source of strength, wisdom, love and encouragement.”
Newsome came to KSHB 41 in 1997. In 2012, she was inducted into the Silver Circle by the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the organization that awards local Emmys.
In 2022, she became the newsroom’s Director of Community Partnerships, according to KSHB 41. In December 2025, the TV station named its newsroom “The Cynthia Newsome Newsroom” in her honor.
Outside the newsroom, Newsome co-founded Awesome Ambitions, a nonprofit, with Star reporter Angela Curry. The organization focused on college and career readiness for Black and brown girls.
“As a family, we are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of prayers, love and support we have already received during this difficult time,” the news release said. “We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we mourn this tremendous loss while also celebrating Cynthia’s extraordinary life and legacy.”
