- Taylor Swift wore Elizabeth Taylor’s opal jewelry to a Brooklyn wedding.
- The 1999 suite contains chandelier earrings, two bracelets, and a ring.
- Adam Fox said the item "just randomly sold" after inquiries on online platforms.
Over the weekend, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attended a wedding in Brooklyn, which in and of itself was enough to attract the paparazzi.
But it was the jewelry Swift wore that caught a lot of attention because the opal jewelry once belonged to one of her idols and song inspirations — Elizabeth Taylor.
And now fans are reveling in the speculation that Kelce bought the jewels for her.
The “Cleopatra” actress bought the suite of jewelry from designer Darlene De Sedle in 1999, according to numerous reports. The suite consists of chandelier earrings, two bracelets and a ring containing black opals and natural Australian crystals.
According to Town & Country magazine, the jewelry was sold as part of Christie’s Collection of Elizabeth Taylor auction, and then later sold again in December by Fox Estate Jewelry via 1stDibs.
After Swift was seen wearing the jewels on Saturday, jewelry dealer Adam Fox said in an Instagram video that, “on the majority of these online platforms, for higher-ticket items, somebody will reach out, ask questions. Sometimes they will try to negotiate, sometimes they won’t. This just randomly sold.”
His description of who acquired the jewelry led to speculation that a representative of Kelce bought the jewels.
“This is a very interesting story that almost seems made up and if we didn’t have photographic evidence it absolutely could be,” Fox said in a social media post.
“We bought a set, beginning, middle of last year, from the Elizabeth Taylor collection that was sold through Christie’s in 2011. Fast forward, we sold that set during Christmas time, end of 2025. And it was weird because this was a six-figure set and it seemed like it was a sports agent that bought it.
“Everything checked out. It was shipped. Everything was fine. And I was like, that was a weird deal.”
When Fox saw photos of Swift wearing the set on Saturday, he deduced the jewelry “was bought either by or for Taylor Swift ... I don’t know if it was bought by Travis Kelce for Taylor Swift ... but I’m just connecting the dots, it was a sports agent.
“It’s amazing to see how this was worn, owned by Elizabeth Taylor, disappeared for years, and then it was subsequently bought by one of the most photographed people in the world. Amazing.”
Swifties went gaga over the speculation that Kelce bought the jewels for his beloved. If true, it would be history repeating itself. Elizabeth Taylor’s husbands famously showered her with expensive jewels from the world’s most famous luxury houses, including Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier.
The second track on Taylor’s “The Life of a Showgirl” album, released last year, is “Elizabeth Taylor,” an ode to the actress who died in 2011.
Swift fashion expert Sarah Chapelle of Taylor Swift Styled on Instagram pointed out that Swift had already worn individual pieces from the suite on previous occasions.
The set includes chandelier earrings a ring and two bracelets with different cuts of stones. She wore all the pieces together for the first time to the Saturday wedding, Chapelle said.
“While not confirmed, it’s not hard to imagine what a very thoughtful gift this suite would be to Taylor, very likely from Travis,” she said.
