Emergency evacuation ordered on American Airlines plane at KCI Airport
Passengers were evacuated from an American Airlines flight at Kansas City International Airport on Friday afternoon.
Jackson Overstreet, a spokesman for the airport, said airport fire and rescue responders assisted with an emergency evacuation of an American flight after it landed safely.
In a statement, the airline said American Eagle flight 5318, which was flying from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to Kansas City International, landed safely after reports of an odor in the cabin. Passengers were evacuated on a taxiway and then bused to the airport terminal, American said.
No injuries were reported. The plane was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members.
“The safety of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we are sorry for their experience,” American’s statement said.
U.S. Rep Tracey Mann posted a video on social media from the airport’s tarmac saying he had been onboard the flight.
“There was smoke on our aircraft, and so we landed and are now sitting on the tarmac,” he said. “Everyone evacuated the aircraft, everyone seems to be OK. Really appreciate our first-responders, folks from fire, they do a fantastic job every day. They’re prepared for things like this, that’s why it’s important that we support all of our first-responders. Really appreciate them coming out right away and making sure there’s no issues.”
