Man attempted to pull 16-year-old girl into truck in Leavenworth, police say
The Leavenworth Police Department has yet to identify a man who allegedly attempted to coerce a 16-year-old into his vehicle in the city on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old girl was walking west on Kansas Avenue, just east of 10th Avenue, just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Maj. Dan Nicodemus, the deputy chief of police for the Leavenworth Police Department, said in an email to The Star.
The teenager told investigators she was searching for her dogs, who had escaped her yard, when a man stopped to speak with her, Nicodemus said.
When the girl explained that her dogs were missing, the man allegedly told her to get in her truck and he “would help her look for the dogs,” Nicodemus said.
Investigators said the teenager refused to get in the man’s truck “several times.” He eventually grabbed her by the arm, and attempted to pull her into the truck. The girl resisted and ran away.
Investigators have not identified the suspect or located his vehicle, Nicodemus said.
Nicodemus said the man was “older,” with “salt and pepper hair.” He is around 6 feet tall with an average build. At the time of the incident, the man was driving a white or silver four-door truck with “no other unique identifiers.”
