Missouri State Highway Patrol investigating Sedalia police shooting during chase
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was investigating a police shooting that happened during a vehicle pursuit in Sedalia Wednesday, the patrol said.
In a statement, the patrol said an officer and a suspect were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the chase and shooting.
Initially, Sedalia police were sent to a domestic violence call in the 1000 block of South Garfield Avenue around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The statement said as officers arrived, a man left the home they were responding to and sped away in a truck.
Police chased the truck on South 16th Street, and at a stop sign, the truck backed into an officer’s vehicle before an officer fired a shot at the suspect, the statement said. The pursuit continued on South Garfield Avenue to East 16th Street before the truck stopped near South Arlington Avenue.
Police found the driver had been hit by gunfire, and the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The highway patrol will investigate the police shooting, and Sedalia police will investigate the original domestic violence incident, the statement said.
