Pickup truck strikes, kills person collecting trash on U.S. 50 near Lee’s Summit

A pickup struck and killed a pedestrian who was collecting trash along U.S. 50 near Lee’s Summit, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a social media post.

The crash happened near Smart Road, where the pedestrian was picking up trash along the eastbound lanes when the truck hit them, the highway patrol said in a post on X about 10:30 a.m. The person died at the scene.

Eastbound U.S. 50 is closed while troopers investigate the crash. Traffic was being diverted onto Blackwell Road. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
