New flight to this West Coast destination coming to Kansas City Airport
There will soon be another option for travelers at Kansas City International Airport to get to the West Coast.
Flyers can already get to San Francisco International Airport from KCI through airlines like Southwest and United Airlines, but Southwest announced a new route that will operate on its highest-demand days.
Year-round service from Kansas City to San Francisco will officially begin in early November, according to Southwest. High-demand days around its debut will include Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holiday travel situations.
A spokesperson for Southwest said the year-round service is not designed to be a rinse-and-repeat daily route.
“As the longtime market leader in Kansas City, we’re happy to connect these two destinations for leisure travel and business travel, which has been strong in California,” Southwest said in a statement.
As of Tuesday, April 28, flights from Kansas City to San Francisco in November and December through Southwest Airlines show connecting options, including layovers in Phoenix, Los Angeles or Denver.
United Airlines does offer a daily nonstop flight to San Francisco International Airport from Kansas City International Airport, which flies in the morning.
Prices will vary for each flight depending on the time and day travelers are looking to fly.
Recently, Kansas City was named the top domestic summer travel destination by New York-based travel magazine Travel + Leisure.
