Man dies after car hits him in sidewalk in Kansas City’s Waldo area
A pedestrian is dead after a car hit him on the sidewalk Wednesday evening near the Waldo and East Meyer neighborhoods of Kansas City, according to police.
T Kansas City police are investigating the driver for suspected driving under the influence in the fatal crash, according to a press release from Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a police spokesperson.
At about 6:20 p.m., a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north on Troost Avenue. Just south of 77th Terrace, the vehicle left the road, Gonzalez said in the release.
The car allegedly hit the pedestrian and pushed him into a utility pole. The pedestrian landed in the street.
The Jeep kept driving and went airborne, hitting a billboard and rotating 180 degrees before landing on its side, police said.
Both the pedestrian and driver were transported to the hospital, where the pedestrian died. The driver is in police custody for suspected driving under the influence, according to Gonzalez.
The names of the pedestrian and driver have not been released.
