Lightning strike sets roof on fire at Lee’s Summit home
A bolt of lightning set fire to the roof of a Lee’s Summit home Tuesday night as storms rolled through the area, authorities said.
The Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to the fire about 7:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of N.E. Timber Hills Drive, where multiple people had called to report the roof on fire.
All of the occupants of the house exited safely after they heard the lightning strike, smelled smoke, and were alerted by neighbors knocking on the door.
The attic and the second floor of the house were damaged before the fire was under control about 7:40 p.m.
A firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. He was later released.
