Two dead, several injured in multi-vehicle crash on south Kansas City exit ramp
Two people are dead and several others are injured Monday following a multi-vehicle collision in south Kansas City.
Kansas City police officers were called to the scene of the accident around 12:30 p.m. Monday, Capt. Jake Becchina, media unit commander for the Kansas City Police Department, said in a press release Monday.
Investigators determined that a silver Subaru Forester and a silver Ford Escape were both stopped on an exit ramp from northbound U.S. Highway 71 to Meyer Boulevard, Becchina said.
A black Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling down the exit ramp at “a high rate of speed” sideswiped the Escape and struck the Subaru, Becchina said.
The F-150 pushed the Subaru across the eastbound lanes of Meyer Boulevard, where it flipped over a concrete wall before landing on the other side of the street, Becchina said. It then rotated across the road.
The F-150 then struck a gray GMC Sierra traveling westbound on Meyer Boulevard, Becchina said.
The driver and front seat passenger of the Subaru were declared dead at the scene, Becchina said.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they remain in critical condition, Becchina said. The driver of the Escape was transported with non-life threatening injuries and is stable.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was uninjured, Becchina said.
The deaths mark Kansas City’s 12th and 13th traffic deaths of 2026, compared to 9 at this time last year, Becchina said.
