Two treated at hospital, heavy damage reported after Overland Park house fire

Two men were taken to area hospitals early Thursday with minor smoke inhalation after an overnight Overland Park house fire.

Crews responded to the blaze at 186th and Lamar just after 1 a.m. Firefighters initially reported “heavy fire showing from the garage and back side” of the two-story home. Everyone in the home at the time was able to get out safely, a release from the Overland Park Fire Department said.

“Firefighters immediately went to work attacking the fire, while additional crews searched the home to confirm everyone was out,” the release said. “Firefighters also found that fire had made its way into the interior living spaces and the attic of the home.”

Other crews were called in, the fire department said.

In addition to the two men transported to hospitals, a woman also was treated at the scene, the department said.

“It took firefighters about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control,” the release said. “Heavy solar panels on compromised roofing required crews to exercise extreme caution.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
