One person died after a crash involving a RideKC bus and a motorcycle Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded just after 1 p.m. to E. 9th Street and The Paseo on a reported collision where someone suffered life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the crash happened as a black Honda motorcycle drove south on The Paseo. A metro bus drove west on E. 9th Street and failed to stop at a stop sign, according to a crash report. The bus then entered the intersection and struck the motorcycle, police said.

The motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was ejected off the vehicle, police said.

Paramedics transported the motorcycle driver to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Some time later, medical staff pronounced the person dead, police said.

The bus driver and all passengers on the bus were not injured in the crash, police said.

The crash marks Kansas City’s 4th traffic death this year, compared to two at this time last year, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesman.
