Rollover crash kills one person in Kansas City’s Northland, police say
One person died after a fatal single-vehicle crash in Kansas City’s Northland Friday, police said.
Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. to Missouri 152 Highway near North Indiana Ave on a reported crash. A preliminary investigation indicates the crash happened as a black Hyundai Tucson took the N. Indiana Ave exit from MO 152 Highway, according to a crash log.
While the traffic signal was green on the exit ramp, the Hyundai remained stopped and other vehicles drove around it, the crash log said. When the traffic light turned red, the driver allegedly drove through the intersection, and continued onto the westbound ramp.
The Hyundai then left the road, traveled up an embankment and struck a large rock, police said. The vehicle overturned as a result of the impact.
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Hyundai dead at the scene.
Police have not yet publicly identified the person who died.
The crash is Kansas City’s third traffic fatality this year, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
