How to help after death of Renee Good, former KC resident killed by ICE in Minneapolis

If you want to help the family of former Kansas City area resident Renee Good, who was killed by ICE in Minneapolis on Wednesday, here’s how you can give money.

The 37-year-old mother of three lived near Waldo until December 2024, according to a resident of that neighborhood. The former Kansas City neighbor described the family as “just two ladies with a cool kid,” and exchanged Christmas cookies as a parting gift.

ICE agents were conducting “targeted operations” in Minneapolis on Wednesday when the shooting occurred. Good was in a burgundy Honda Pilot when she was fatally shot.

Thursday night, Kansas Citians gathered downtown in the rain to remember Good. Attendees held signs reading “stop ICE terror” and “ICE. The real domestic terrorist.”

Good’s parents live in Valley Falls, Kansas, approximately 30 miles northeast of Topeka.

Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”

“She was extremely compassionate,” Ganger said. “She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

A Valley Falls neighbor remembered Good’s father asking him to keep an eye on the house because, “He was leaving for Minneapolis … He said it was his daughter who was killed.”

Kansas Citians can give money to Good’s widow and son by using a GoFundMe organized by a friend of the family. Donations were paused as of midday Friday.

The organizer wrote, “Renee was pure sunshine, pure love. She will be desperately missed.”

A representative from GoFundMe wrote Wednesday that the company’s trust and safety team verified this fundraiser.

As of midday Friday, more than 38,000 donors had given $1.5 million.
