KC police release name of man killed in suspected road rage highway shooting

Police have released the identity of the man killed in a shooting near 71 Highway and Blue River Road Wednesday morning, and said they have a person of interest in custody.

Officers were called to southbound 71 Highway and Blue River Road on the reported shooting just before 11:20 a.m., where they found a vehicle stopped on the side of the road and a woman asking for help.

A man, later identified as Keithlin Royster, 32, was found unresponsive inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. Royster was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics, according to police.

Investigators believe two unidentified men were in an unknown vehicle when shots were fired and struck Royster in what may have been a road rage incident.

The highway was closed for hours Wednesday as police investigated, trying to determine exactly where the altercation started and where the shooting occurred

A subject of interest turned himself into police Wednesday afternoon, according to Alayna Gonzalez, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department. The man was questioned by detectives, who are not currently seeking additional suspects.

The case was presented to prosecutors to consider possible charges.
