Man found dead in Harrisonville creek on New Year’s Day ID’d as missing man

The body of a missing Harrisonville, Missouri, man was found in a creek along U.S. Highway 71 on Jan. 1, the city’s police department said.

In a social media post Tuesday afternoon, the Harrisonville Police Department identified the man as Daniel Potter, of Harrisonville.

A missing person poster said Potter, 62, was last seen Dec. 22 on an electric bike, possibly heading toward a Japanese restaurant near where his body was eventually found.

“At this time, no foul play is suspected and this appears to be a tragic accident,” police said. “We have spoken to Daniel’s family directly to express our sympathy and condolences during this difficult time. We ask that this community do the same and show them the love and support they need right now.”

Police said someone contacted the department saying they had found Potter’s body in a creek near Harrisonville’s Sutherlands location, along the highway, around 3 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
