Pro softball team comes to Kansas City, will play at Legends Field this summer
Another professional sports team is coming to the Kansas City metro, on the Kansas side, thrusting the city into the professional women’s softball scene for the first time.
The KC Diamonds will be one of seven teams playing in the inaugural season of the Pro Softball League in 2026, according to a news release.
Home games will be played at Legends Field, the home of the Kansas City Monarchs, with the season beginning in June, one week after the Women’s College World Series.
The PSL is one of several professional softball leagues; Athletes Unlimited, which has had player-driven softball seasons, will have its inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League this season.
The KC Diamonds will face six other teams based in Atlanta, Chattanooga, Florida and New York across a 39-game schedule.
The PSL’s inaugural season will be broadcast exclusively on the All Women’s Sports Network, placing league coverage on streaming platforms including Amazon Prime, Pluto TV, and DirecTV.
The team announced its first two player signings, University of Virginia alums Leah Boggs and Savanah Henley, at a press conference on Monday. Boggs, a catcher, was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association First Team All-Region selection as a Cavalier.
Henley, a pitcher, boasted 3.44 earned run average over her collegiate career and recently went 13-0 with a 0.10 ERA with the Bonn Capitals, helping them win the German title in September.
An exhibition version of the team played in June against the Florida Vibe, and the New York Rise, two teams in the PSL.
“This is a defining moment for softball in Kansas City,” Diamonds general manager Jeremy McDowell said in the release. “The KC Diamonds represent opportunity, visibility, and growth for professional women’s sports. Kansas City has already proven it shows up for softball, and now it has a team to call its own.”
The KC Diamonds are a nonprofit organization led by a volunteer board, and also have youth teams ranging from girls 10 years old and under to 18 years old.
Tickets for the Diamonds’ inaugural season will go on sale Feb. 1. The Diamonds open the season in Atlanta against the Atlanta Smoke on June 11 and will host Florida Vibe on June 17 for the inaugural home opener.
