If you or someone you know plans to give birth in the Kansas City area, they’ll be in good hands. The region has some of the best hospitals for maternity care, according to a new report.

8 hospitals in the area were among the 495 across the United States to earn U.S. News & World Report’s “high performing” designation for maternity care involving uncomplicated pregnancies. The rankings reviewed 901 hospitals in the country that submitted maternity data for evaluation.

The data collected from each hospital ranged from the birth rates of C-sections and vaginal births after the mother previously had a C-section birth, to birthing-friendly practices and severe unexpected newborn complication rates.

“These public ratings assist expectant parents, in consultation with their prenatal care providers, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care for uncomplicated births,” U.S. News said in a statement.

Kansas City was also included on U.S. News & World Report’s top 20 list for metropolitan areas that have the greatest number of hospitals on the list.

Of the Kansas City area’s eight hospitals, three are in Kansas and five are in Missouri. Check out which hospitals made the list.

Each hospital that received a high-performing maternity care designation also met criteria to be recognized as “Birthing-Friendly,” according to U.S. News, because the hospital “participated in a quality improvement collaborative and implemented patient safety practices in order to improve maternal outcomes.”
