Oak Grove issues boil water advisory after Independence outage
Oak Grove city officials issued a boil water advisory for customers in the city Monday after a power outage at Independence’s Courtney Bend Water Treatment plant.
“Effective immediately the City of Oak Grove is issuing a Boil Water Advisory as advised from our water supplier Independence Water Utility,” Oak Grove officials said in a social media post Monday morning. “Oak Grove water customers until further notice are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for 3-5 minutes, then cool, prior to consuming.”
The city advised water customers to use bottled or boiled water for consumption, cooking or food preparation for humans and pets. Water filters should be replaced after the advisory has been lifted, the city said. People can bathe and shower as usual, but children should be supervised so they don’t ingest any water. The city advised customers to flush cold and then hot water from home tanks.
Independence supplies water to about 250,000 people, including residents of Independence and wholesale customers, according to the city’s website. The power outage disrupted water pumps and system pressure, officials said.
“A Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for all customers,” Independence city officials said in a statement on the city’s website. “This advisory is a standard safety measure issued when water service is interrupted and will remain in place until the system is fully stabilized and water quality testing confirms it is safe to lift.”
