1 dead, 1 critically injured after car flips over guardrail near the Plaza
One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a car flipped over a guardrail early Sunday morning near the Plaza.
Emergency personnel responded to the area of west Brush Creek and north Ward Parkway at approximately 2:20 a.m. Sunday on reports of an injury crash, according to a press release from Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed a white four-door sedan was traveling west on Ward Parkway at “a high rate of speed,” Gonzalez said. The sedan “failed to negotiate” a curve, and it careened over the guardrail.
The sedan came to rest upside down in Brush Creek, Gonzalez said. Both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead later that day, Gonzalez said. The driver remains in critical condition.
The passenger’s death marks the 60th vehicle fatality of the year in Kansas City, Gonzalez said.
