A death investigation caused multiple roads to close in the southwest corner of Kansas City’s downtown loop Wednesday morning, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced multiple road closures due to police activity in downtown Kansas City Wednesday morning.

On social media, MoDOT said roads closed to traffic included the northbound ramp of U.S. 71 Highway to westbound Interstate 670, the eastbound ramp of Interstate 70 to westbound I-670, and westbound I-670 at I-70.

As of 11:35 a.m., those roads were reopened to drivers, MoDOT said on social media.

Officers responded around 9:13 a.m. to I-670 at Charlotte Street to meet emergency medical services regarding a party down, according to a police incident report.

A witness told an officer on scene that a man had jumped off a bridge near I-670, according to the incident report.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

A large police presence could be seen on KC Scout cameras in the downtown loop mid-morning.

Preliminary investigative details indicate the person died by suicide, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesman.

Police have not yet provided an age of the person who was found dead.

If you or someone you know is at risk of self-harm, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides 24-hour support at 800-273-8255.
