A 45-year-old Independence man is dead following a three-vehicle crash Friday in Independence .

Independence police officers were called to the area of U.S. 40 Highway and Sterling Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Oct. 31, according to a previous press release from Independence Police Department Sgt. Steven Boles.

A Ford Escape was traveling east on U.S. 40 when it struck a Ford F-250 truck traveling north on Sterling Avenue, Boles said. The Ford F-250 was pushed into a Toyota Avalon.

Three of four occupants were transported to area hospitals, Boles said. The driver of the Ford Escape and Ford F-250 remained hospitalized Friday. Henry Gibson, the driver of the Ford Escape, later died.

It’s unclear when Gibson succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford F-250 remains hospitalized as of Monday in serious, but stable, condition, Boles said.
