A three-story vacant apartment building in east Kansas City collapsed after fire broke out Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire at 35th Street and Euclid Avenue around 9:30 a.m. No one was injured, said Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Fire Department

“It was fully involved on arrival,” Hopkins said, referring to the apartment building. “It is completely gone.”

A home next door to the apartment building “ignited from the extreme heat,” Hopkins said.

“And it’s going to be a significant loss as well,” he said.

The American Red Cross has been called in to help one adult and four children, the department said.

Just before 11 a.m. Friday, crews were still at the scene.

After an initial investigation of the fire, KCFD has asked the Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson squad to take over, Hopkins said in an email.
