Fatal wrong-way truck crash in Raymore shuts down all lanes of I-49 for hours

A fatal vehicle crash on southbound Missouri Interstate 49 in Raymore Tuesday left the highway closed in both directions for hours, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

State troopers were called to the scene near North Cass Parkway near Raymore around 2 p.m., according to Kansas City Scout, Kansas City’s traffic management system.

A preliminary investigation revealed a box truck was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-49, where it struck multiple vehicles, according to a post from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A on X, formerly Twitter.

The truck then caught fire, according to the post. The driver was pronounced dead.

Both directions of I-49 were blocked off near North Cass Parkway, according to Kansas City Scout.

Both lanes were reopened as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to a post on X from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
