One dead, three injured after car crashes into tree in Kansas City
A car crashed into a tree early Sunday in Kansas City, killing one person and injuring three others.
Police were called around 1:20 a.m. to the area of 16th Street and The Paseo, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
According to the preliminary investigation, a gray Chevrolet Malibu was speeding south on The Paseo. At the intersection with 16th Street, the car slid up over a curb, through the grass and into a tree. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The front seat passenger is in critical condition, and the one riding in the left rear seat is in serious condition, Becchina said. The passenger who was in the right rear seat of the car is in stable condition, he said.
The investigation into the crash continues.
This marks Kansas City’s 54th crash fatality this year compared to 75 this time last year, according to data tracked by the Police Department.
