Kansas City police are still searching for a hit-and-run suspect related to a serious injury crash with a Kansas City doctor who was riding his bicycle in September, and have released a photo of the vehicle they say caused the crash.

On September 17, at approximately 8 p.m., a red 2013 to 2020 era Ford Fusion was involved in a crash with a bicycle rider, later identified as Children’s Mercy Hospital pediatric cardiologist Saswat Das, at East 39th Street and Gilham Road, according to police spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina.

Das was traveling west on 39th, approaching Harrison Parkway, as the red Ford Fusion was driving South on Harrison Parkway, Becchina said. The Ford Fusion struck the bicycle and left the scene at a high rate of speed, going east on 39th.

Saswat Das, a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Mercy hospital, had recently moved to Kansas City from Little Rock, Arkansas. He was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash while riding his bicycle the evening of Sept. 17 in the city’s midtown area. The driver, who fled the scene, has not been caught and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Das was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries at the time of the crash. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, loved ones previously told The Star.

Police are looking to locate the Ford Fusion, which may have damage to the driver’s side mirror. People with information on the vehicle can contact the KCPD Traffic Investigation Section at 816-949-1524 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

A fundraiser for Das’ medical expenses has gained more than $113,000.
