Chiefs fans bring viral Taylor Swift dance to Arrowhead. It’s Travis Kelce’s turn
Chiefs fans did a lot of celebrating at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday after the Chiefs defeated the Lions.
But first, they danced.
Then they waited to see Travis Kelce dance.
Chiefs fans brought the viral “The Fate of Ophelia” dance to Arrowhead on game day. The song is featured on Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
The song’s video debuted two days after the album launch at watch parties in theaters across the country.
It only took Swift fans a split second to learn the choreography to the catchy chorus and teach it to each other with TikTok tutorials.
The choreography was created by Emmy winner Mandy Moore who worked with Swift on the Eras Tour. Several dancers from the tour appear in the video, which Swift directed.
Swift posted a clip inviting fans to add their own tweaks.
Chiefs fans danced in the stands and in Arrowhead’s parking lot while tailgating.
“’The Fate of Ophelia’ hits different at Arrowhead,” noted three women in Chiefs gear who danced outside the stadium before the game.
Chiefs fans have been busy dancing in their team gear at home, too, and in their classrooms.
Having seen Kelce dance so many times on the field — and off — Chiefs fans joked that he choreographed the “Ophelia” video. (He did not.)
They also wondered if he inspired the song. (He kinda did.)
Swift described the Shakespeare-inspired “Ophelia” as a “love song” during an interview with a British radio station. By now everyone knows that love story began two summers ago in Arrowhead.
She dropped Easter eggs in the video that hint at Kelce.
During the chorus, as she sings about pledging allegiance to her savior’s “hands, your team, your vibes,” she tosses a football behind her to another dancer.
The number on a hotel room is 87, Kelce’s jersey number.
In another scene, fans think the tight end’s picture hangs on the dressing room mirror.
So it’s no wonder Chiefs fans want Kelce to score soon. They want to see him do the dance in the end zone.
One fan wrote on social media Sunday: “On my way to watch the Chiefs game to see if they do the Ophelia Dance when they score a TD tonight.”
Kelce didn’t score against the Lions. He has another chance when the Raiders come to Arrowhead for a noon game Sunday.
In the meantime, Swifties will just have to watch this smooth dude take “Ophelia” for a spin.
