Leavenworth man dead following fatal Platte County motorcycle crash, deputies say

A Leavenworth man is dead following a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday, according to Platte County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeffrey Shanks.

Platte County sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Farley Hampton Road and Baker Road at 4 p.m. Sunday on reports of a single-vehicle accident, Shanks said. There, deputies found a 2023 Triumph motorcycle in the grass of the southwest corner of the intersection.

Kyle Jonsson, 38, a resident of “the Lansing/Leavenworth Kansas area,” was located 20 yards away from the motorcycle, Shanks said. Two people were attempting life-saving measures on Jonsson when deputies arrived.

A deputy took over life-saving measures until emergency personnel arrived, Shanks said. Jonsson was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office’s crash team is investigating the incident, Shanks said.
