Soldier serving life for attacking women at Texas post dies at Fort Leavenworth

A soldier serving a life sentence at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth for an attempted murder charge and a swath of other convictions died last week after he was found unresponsive in his cell, Army officials said.

In a statement, the Army identified the soldier as Sgt. Greville Clarke and said he was found unresponsive in his cell Friday. First responders from Fort Leavenworth were unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced dead. An investigation into the death is ongoing, the Army said.

A military judge handed down the life sentence in April after Clarke was convicted during a court-martial on charges of rape, kidnapping, attempted premeditated murder, assault with the intent to commit rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated sexual contact, aggravated assault, assault with intent to commit kidnapping, assault consummated by battery, indecent visual recording and obstruction of justice, the Army said in a news release announcing the sentence earlier this year.

Along with the life sentence with the possibility of parole for the attempted murder charge, he was given a consecutive sentence for the other charges of an additional 112.5 years, as well as a dishonorable discharge from the military, the Army said.

Stars and Stripes, a military publication, reported on Clarke’s military trial earlier this year, and said Clarke was accused of breaking into the rooms of five women living in the barracks at Fort Hood in Texas and attacking them between 2021 and 2022.
