One of 4 soldiers killed in ‘aircraft mishap’ was from Missouri, Army says
One of four Army soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Washington state last week was from Missouri, officials said.
On Monday, the Army identified the four who were killed when the MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter they were aboard went down as:
- Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Cully, 35, of Sparta, Missouri
- Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Kraus, 39, of Sanibel, Florida
- Sgt. Donavon Scott, 24, of Tacoma, Washington
- Sgt. Jadalyn Good, 23, of Mount Vernon, Washington
The crash happened in a rural area near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in western Washington Sept. 17, according to the Army and media reports. An investigation into the “aircraft mishap” is ongoing, the Army said.
The Army said the four soldiers were “Night Stalkers” assigned to the 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
Cully was commissioned in 2013 as an Army aviation officer from Missouri State University. After his initial service as a commissioned officer, he became an aviation warrant officer and served as a Black Hawk pilot, the Army said. Cully was assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2024.
In a news release, Col. Stephen Smith said the four “embodied the unwavering dedication, selflessness, and excellence that define the very spirit of the Army and Army Special Operations.”
“Their sacrifice in service to our nation will forever be etched in our hearts and in the legacy of the Night Stalkers,” Smith said. “These heroes were not only elite professionals but also cherished teammates, friends, and family members whose absence leaves an immeasurable void.”
