Flights delayed, cancelled at KCI after ‘equipment outage’ reported

Some flights were delayed at Kansas City International Airport Friday afternoon after an “equipment outage” was reported.

An air traffic control advisory Friday afternoon indicated arrival delays of up to 30 minutes could be expected because of an “equipment outage.” Those departing could expect delays of 30-60 minutes, a bulletin said. More information was not immediately available.

The airport’s flight information dashboard showed several flights with delays. One American Airlines flight to Dallas was cancelled.

Airports in Texas, including the hubs of Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, also had ground stops put in place Friday afternoon because of an “equipment outage,” the Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, reported. Media reports said the issues were due to a reported local telephone company equipment issue, citing an FAA statement.

Justin Meyer, a spokesman for the Kansas City airport, referred The Star to the FAA, which did not respond to a request for information Friday afternoon.
