See inside Jackson County’s new $317 million jail as it nears completion
The new Jackson County detention center is nearing completion. Construction is expected to be wrapped up before the end of the year.
County officials led members of the media on a tour Thursday of the $317 million project being constructed at 7000 E. Highway 40 in Kansas City.
Planning for the new 1,000-bed detention center began in 2019 and construction started in 2022. County officials anticipate the facility will be completed in the first weeks of December this year.
