Body of fisherman missing in KCK since Sunday found in Kaw River

A man was found dead near the Kaw River in Kansas City, Kansas, Tuesday after he failed to return from fishing in the area Sunday.

Muang Kyi, a man described to be in his 60s, was located in the Kaw River near Kaw Point Park around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office Media Relations Specialist Grace Jacobs.

Kyi was reported missing Sunday after a family member dropped him off around 1 p.m. near the river to go fishing, according to a press release from Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Capt. Osvaldo Navarro.

When his family returned around 4 p.m., they were unable to locate Kyi, Navarro said. His personal belongings remained in the area.

On Tuesday, investigators were dispatched to the area after a fisherman in the area reported discovering a body in the river, Navarro said. Detectives positively identified the man as Kyi.

No foul play is suspected, Navarro said.

The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department assisted the KCKPD and Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Kyi, Navarro said.
