9 people, including children, hurt in school bus crash in Kansas City

The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a school bus crash in Kansas City that left two adults and seven children injured Friday afternoon.

The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a wreck involving a vehicle and a “small school bus” at Linwood Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue, according to a press release from battalion chief Michael Hopkins.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the scene around 3:56 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a white SUV sped east on Linwood Boulevard and allegedly ran a red traffic light before colliding with the school bus.

The driver of the school bus and seven children were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries, according to a KCPD incident report.

The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital with injuries police believed to be not life-threatening.

The fire department said those injured were in stable condition Friday evening.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
