No injuries have been reported after a roof partially collapsed in a wholesale storage building on Independence Avenue.

The Kansas City Fire Department responded to a building collapse in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

First responders reported a partial roof collapse, which fell inside the building, causing “several walls to lean out and become compromised,” Hopkins said.

The building is used as a storage location for a wholesale business, according to the press release.

Hopkins said the owner of the building, as well as the renter, are on scene working with city planning and dangerous buildings officials to secure the structure.

Independence Avenue remains closed from Chelsea Avenue to Brighton Avenue, according to the press release.
