Lil Wayne celebrates 20 years of ‘Tha Carter’ in KC. What to know before you go
One of hip-hop’s icons is back in Kansas City on Tuesday, Aug. 26, where he’ll celebrate a long series of albums by playing some of his greatest hits from his 26-year career.
New Orleans-based artist Lil Wayne heads to T-Mobile Center for Tha Carter VI Tour, named after his 2025 album. The first “Tha Carter” released in 2004, and Lil Wayne has periodically released albums under the name over the last 20 years. His real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., and he named the albums after himself and a notable area in 1991’s crime action film “New Jack City,” starring Wesley Snipes.
Fans can expect him to perform popular songs like “Lollipop,” “A Milli,” “Go DJ,” “6 Foot 7 Foot” and “Love Me,” along with songs from his newest album and other fan favorites from his catalog. Here’s what to know if you’re seeing Lil Wayne in Kansas City.
How much are Lil Wayne tickets?
Tickets are still available for Lil Wayne’s concert in Kansas City on Ticketmaster.
The cheapest ticket starts at $38.23 in section 103 in the lower bowl of T-Mobile Center. Other seats in the lower bowl range from $57.54, $80.40 and $126 per ticket. Seats on the floor cost $68.94 in section 6 and $201.95 in section 1.
Only resale tickets remain in the upper bowl, starting at $117 in section 202.
When does Lil Wayne perform?
Lil Wayne is scheduled to take the T-Mobile Center stage at 9:15 p.m., but the venue says the schedule is subject to change. He has taken the stage nearly an hour later at different stops, and his show Aug. 11 in Toronto was canceled due to an “unforeseen illness.”
Opening act and fellow hip-hop artist Tyga performs at 8:10 p.m. The T-Mobile Center doors open at 7 p.m.
If your cellphone provider is T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile or MINT, you can enter through the expedited T-Mobile gate on Grand Boulevard when the doors open. The venue is cashless, so you can only buy concert merchandise with credit and debit cards or contactless payment methods, like Apple Pay.
What can and can’t I bring to T-Mobile Center?
T-Mobile Center does not have a clear bag policy, but the venue encourages fans to pack lightly when attending. Your bag should not be larger than 12” by 6” by 12”, and don’t bring backpacks or coolers. These other items are not allowed inside:
- Artificial noisemakers
- Beach balls and balloons
- Cameras with detachable lenses
- Coolers and containers
- Laptop and tablet computers
- Outside food and beverages
- Pocket knives
- Selfie sticks
- Spurs
- Umbrellas with spike-like points
- Any type of weapon, fake weapon or object resembling a weapon
Where can I park in downtown Kansas City?
Downtown Kansas City offers numerous parking options near the T-Mobile Center. On-site parking is available at the magenta lot at 14th and Oak. Other nearby options are in the red lot at 11th and Oak streets and the yellow lot at 13th Street and Grand Boulevard, which is the KC Live! garage.
You will have to purchase passes to these lots in advance online. The magenta lot costs $195 and the red lot costs $34.75. Event parking opens two hours before the concert.
Other than those, there are over 40,000 parking spaces in the downtown area. Many are paid lots, and street parking is available, though it may cost up to $40 during events like these.
You can also park farther away and take the free KC Streetcar to the stop 14th and Main streets, the closest to T-Mobile Center.
Where can I be dropped off and picked up for the concert?
Grand Boulevard and Oak Street in front of T-Mobile Center will be blocked off for Lil Wayne’s concert. In addition, portions of I-670 will be closed, which could increase concert traffic.
If you’re being dropped off by a family, friend, Uber or Lyft, they can take you as close to the 13th and Oak Street entrance as possible. They may also drop you off on streets that aren’t blocked off in the Power & Light District or farther away if walking isn’t an issue.
The same is true for picking up concertgoers after the show. Communicate with your driver so they can find you once the show’s over.
