Want Wornall Road to be safer to drive on? Kansas City wants to hear from you

Google Maps

Kansas City wants to know if you support Wornall Road going on a “diet.”

The city is eyeing a stretch of Wornall — between 63rd Street and Gregory Boulevard through Brookside — for a road diet, which would reduce lanes on the road from two in each direction to one in each direction, with a left-turn lane running down the middle.

That could help slow down traffic, reduce crashes and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians. Other options for safety improvements along the corridor could include adding and enhancing crosswalks.

A survey is open for residents to provide feedback about safety along the stretch of Wornall from 63rd to Gregory, including whether they support the idea of a “road diet” that would reduce lanes.

The survey also asks whether residents consider the stretch to be dangerous, what the main safety issues are, and the level of satisfaction with pedestrian amenities, among other issues.

Further details are to be announced.

The city is looking at other possible road diet projects across the city, including along Broadway Boulevard through Midtown.
