If you’ve received a phone call threatening punishment for missing jury duty, it is likely a scam, according to Jackson County court officials.

The 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County is warning the public about a phone scam where people receive a call and are told to pay money over the phone or through a website to avoid arrest.

Scammers may appear to call from an official number and use the names of Jackson County circuit judges.

Jackson County circuit court does not threaten to arrest people related to jury duty, and doesn’t ask citizens to pay fines by phone, officials said. People with questions about jury duty can contact the court’s jury office at 816-881-3602.
