Funeral services scheduled for slain Wyandotte County deputy

A funeral service for Wyandotte County Sheriff’s deputy Elijah Ming, who was shot and killed July 26, has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11, at Children’s Mercy Park.

The service at the stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, will begin at 11 a.m., authorities said. Parking lots at the stadium will open at 9 a.m., and stadium gates will open at 10 a.m.

A law enforcement procession will take place immediately following the service. A route for the procession and burial information will be announced later.

Ming, who had been with the sheriff’s office for nearly nine years, was shot while responding to a service call in Kansas City, Kansas’ Argentine neighborhood. The shooting happened in the 2600 block of South 30th Street as law enforcement officers were providing protection while a woman moved out of a house.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office has charged Shawn Harris, 38, with capital murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing.
