One killed when dollar store partially collapses in midtown KC. What we know
A dollar store building in midtown Kansas City partially collapsed Sunday afternoon, killing one person and injuring at least three others, according to Michael Hopkins, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Fire Department.
KCFD responded to the reported building collapse in the 3700 block of Broadway Boulevard just after 2:45 p.m. Sunday. When crews arrived, they discovered part of the front facade of a Family Dollar building had collapsed.
One person died in the collapse. Another was transported to an area with serious injuries, but remains in stable condition, according to Hopkins.
Two others were treated on the scene, but denied additional treatment, Hopkins said.
When asked about when the last inspection on the building was, Hopkins said he didn’t have any information at the moment. He said the KCFD would have to look into its records to examine if there were any previous calls about the structural integrity of the building.
The Kansas City Police Department is investigating the collapse, since there was a fatality, Hopkins said, noting that’s standard protocol.
