Kansas City is installing 120 new speed bumps. See where they’ll be on these maps
Kansas City is getting some more speed bumps.
The City Council approved a plan in July to install at least 120 speed humps this year to slow traffic in neighborhoods across the city based on requests from residents.
“Traffic safety is a top concern,” Michael Shaw, director of public works, said in a statement. “By planning for these speed humps now, we’re preparing to deliver real solutions in 2025 that slow down traffic and save lives.”
Construction on the new speed bumps is expected to start by the fall and will be placed on over 30 stretches of road.
It falls under Kansas City’s ongoing Vision Zero initiative, which calls on the city to pursue changes that make roads and crosswalks safer for all who use them and reduce traffic injuries and deaths to zero. The city has had at least 44 traffic-related deaths so far in 2025.
Other projects are planned to remake stretches of major corridors in the city to improve access and safety, including along Broadway Boulevard, Southwest Boulevard and Wornall Road.
