Northbound I-35 reopened in KC’s Northland after semi struck bridge
Northbound I-35 at exit 11 in Kansas City’s Northland was temporarily closed after a semi-truck with an oversized load struck a bridge Friday morning, according to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The highway has since reopened.
The truck was carrying two cylinder liquid tanks on a trailer, according to Corporal Justin Ewing, a public information officer with the highway patrol.
Ewing said the tanks struck the overhead bridge and became dislodged. There were no injuries.
Drivers had to avoid the area as a tow company worked to remove the cylinder tanks from the road. Ewing said it looked like the tanks were enclosed in metal cages that had become entangled and lodged under the bridge. The bridge remained open.
Ewing said the Missouri Department of Transportation also had to determine the damage done to the bridge before reopening the road. Engineers had to make sure “the damage isn’t significant enough to where emergency repairs would need to be done.”
The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
