The Kansas City area is bracing for seven days of 90+ degree weather.

In both Kansas and Missouri, the humidity makes things feel hotter — the heat index is forecast to rise to between 98 and up to 106 degrees this week.

Heat exposure can cause life-threatening health issues, especially for those who work outdoors, seniors and those with other health conditions. To help stay safe and cool, dip your feet in an area swimming pool or get some free A/C in a cooling center, like a community center, library or bus.

After several recent storms, there is risk of heavy thunderstorms developing Tuesday and later in the week, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City. Rivers and creeks have flooded in the Kansas City area, as the region received 5.3 inches of rain so far in July.

The Kansas City area can soon look forward to cooler days in a few weeks, according to historical weather data from the National Weather Service in Kansas City.

What is the hottest time in the Kansas City area?

Before things cool down, they could heat up a little bit more this month.

According to climate data from 1991 to 2020, the highest high temperatures occur from July 25 to 30. The average high is 88.9 degrees during that time frame.

Those average temperatures slowly drop off after that. The average daily high dips below 85 degrees Aug. 29 and then under 80 on Sept. 14.

How do high temperatures this summer compare to last summer?

We’ve soared to 90 degrees 18 times so far in 2025, almost twice as often as the same time frame in 2024. By this time last year, the Kansas City area had hit 90 degrees 10 times.

In 2024, there were 22 additional 90 degree days in the rest of the summer, with the last being Oct. 12.

The hottest days last year were Aug. 25 and 26, when the Kansas City area endured temperatures of 99 degrees.
