Woman dead after midday shooting in Kansas City apartment, police say

One woman is dead after a midday shooting inside a Kansas City apartment Tuesday, according to Kansas City police.

Police were called just before noon to the 5200 block of Oak Leaf Drive, where they found 24-year-old Jaida Perdue suffering from gunshot wounds in an apartment, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Perdue was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are working to determine what lead to the shooting and have been canvassing for witnesses, surveillance footage and physical evidence, according to DiMartino.

Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted through the anonymous hotline.

This marks Kansas City’s 90th homicide compared to 80 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
