A Kansas City man was killed early Tuesday when the e-bike he was riding collided with another vehicle at an Overland Park intersection, according to police.

The e-bike rider, identified as Desmond Robinson, 25, was riding westbound on West 95th Street when he entered the intersection at Metcalf Avenue against a red light, according to a news release from the Overland Park Police Department.

In the intersection, the e-bike hit a vehicle heading south on Metcalf.

Police responded to the crash around 3:31 a.m. and said Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was uninjured and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit was investigating the crash.

E-bikes are legal to ride in bike lanes in Kansas, said Officer John Lacy, an Overland Park police spokesman. But they must obey traffic laws like other vehicles.
