Looking for fireworks around Kansas City? A guide to 4th of July celebrations
Night skies will be a lot brighter than normal in the next week, as Fourth of July celebrations are scheduled all across Kansas City.
Independence Day brings plenty of fireworks displays to the Kansas City area. Most of the largest celebrations will feature live music and other activities as well before fireworks light up the sky.
Here’s where you can celebrate the holiday in Kansas City.
Where to celebrate 4th of July in Kansas City
The biggest event in Kansas City is the Stars and Stripes Picnic at the National World War I Museum and Memorial on July 4.
The grounds at the museum lawn open at 3 p.m., and fireworks start at 9:40 p.m. Visitors can see live performances leading up to the show, and it will be broadcast on KCTV locally for anyone who’s staying indoors.
You can also see fireworks displays and live music at these locations. All events are free unless noted :
- Legacy Blast, July 3: Lee’s Summit invites all to a holiday celebration with live music, DJs from 6 to 9 p.m., and then the fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. at Legacy Park.
- LibertyFest, July 3: Liberty’s Capitol Federal Sports Complex hosts a live celebration with free family activities, games, a beer garden and more for visitors starting at 6 p.m. The fireworks show begins at 10 p.m. The event is free to attend, but parking costs $10.
- Fairway Fireworks, July 3: The joint celebration from the cities of Fairway, Roeland Park and Westwood will take place at Bishop Miege starting at 9:45 p.m.
- Red White and Blue Springs, July 3: The event brings live music, local vendors, food trucks at 5 p.m. to Blue Springs South High School. The fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
Celebration in the Park, July 4: The celebration in Leawood takes place on the holiday at Leawood City Park, and family-friendly activities like face painting and mechanical bulls begin at 6 p.m. The fireworks display starts at approximately 9:45 p.m.
CPKC Stadium, July 4: The home of the Kansas City Current is hosting the Premier Lacrosse League and Women’s Lacrosse League All-Star Weekend, and will celebrate with a postgame fireworks show on the holiday. Tickets for July 4’s skills challenge and WLL’s All-Star game start at $23, and weekend passes start at $37, as the PLL’s All-Star game is Saturday, July 5.
Olathe Red, White and Blue, July 4: Olathe is celebrating Independence Day throughout the holiday week, but its fireworks display takes place at 9:45 p.m. at the College Boulevard Activity Center.
Gladstone Independence Day Celebration, July 4: The Northland event at Oak Grove Park will feature music starting at 7 p.m., with a flag presentation at 9:30 and fireworks 5 minutes later.
Legends Field, July 4: The Kansas City Monarchs, the city’s independent professional baseball team, host a postgame fireworks show every Friday home game in Kansas City, Kansas, and they play against the Lincoln Saltdogs on the Fourth of July. Tickets start at $19.
- Star Spangled Spectacular, July 4: The holiday celebration at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park in Overland Park is open all day, but the day’s events do not begin until 5 p.m. when the food trucks open. Visitors can then listen to live music from local tribute bands until the fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
- Worlds of Fun, July 4-5: A two-day celebration at Worlds of Fun will help mark visitors mark Independence Day for park visitors. A fireworks display starts at 9:30 p.m., and tickets are $40 for each day.
- Independence Day celebration, July 5: Celebrate Independence Day in Independence the day after the holiday with a free event at the Independence Visitors’ Center. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. for guests to partake in activities and listen to live music from local acts, and the fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.
