One dead, one seriously hurt in wrong-way crash on Lee’s Summit highway
Update: The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Jillian K. Harris, of Lee’s Summit, according to Lee’s Summit Police Department Sgt. Chris Depue.
One person is dead and another seriously injured after a wrong-way, head-on crash Tuesday evening in Lee’s Summit, a police spokesman said.
The crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes of U.S. 50, just east of the Missouri 291 north interchange, said Sgt. Chris Depue with the Lee’s Summit Police Department.
Emergency crews responded to the crash and found two vehicles that had crashed head-on, Depue said.
A preliminary investigation found that one vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it collided with a vehicle that was headed west.
The driver who was headed the wrong way was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
The name of the driver killed in the crash was being withheld until family could be notified.
